About us

The Latvian Library for the Blind provides free librarian, bibliographic and information services for the blind, visually impaired or other readers. The Library of the Blind in Riga and its affiliate libraries in Balvi, Cesis, Daugavpils, Jelgava, Liepaja, Rezekne and Ventspils offer readers access to sighted books, as well as customized literature - audiobooks, books in Braille and enlarged print. There are options for using computers with specialized equipment for the visually impaired and the blind, magnifying devices for visually impaired readers, wireless internet, scanning, printing and copying services. The Tiflology Cabinet contains historical materials on the life, activities and achievements of the blind, typhoid pedagogy, typhlotechnics, social issues, social care and rehabilitation issues.

Who can receive customized audiobooks?

Latvian Library for the Blind serves everyone, who has difficulties or is unable to read normal printed text. Our readers are blind and partially sighted people, as well as people with other reading disabilities (including seniors, people with dyslexia, etc.) and the physical disabilities mentioned in section 22 (1) of the Copyright Act.
