Description

Barkava( latvian Borkova) is a village in Latgale, in the east of Madona county, the center of Barkava parish. The regional road Madona-Varakļani passes through Barkava( P84) . Distance to Madona - 30 km, to Riga - 186 km. Barkava is located in the Lubān plain of Eastern Latvia, less than 10 km from the western shore of Lake Lubān. Area terrain is distinctly flat. In the center of Barkava is the St. Stanislav Roman Catholic Church( celta 1822. in the place of the wooden church, dean - Rolands Abrickis) . Barkavas center cemetery and a monument to fallen Soviet soldiers. Barkava is also home to Barkava parish administration, Barkava primary school, Barkava vocational high school( tās dienesta viesnīcā iespējams pārnakšņot arī tūristiem), cultural center, post office, gas station.
